Notes on titles, volume numbering, and accuracy
Titles: “Chairmen” and “Editors”
At the foundation of Trinity News in 1953 the individual responsible for directing the production of the newspaper was, in the style of the times, referred to as a “Chairman”. In the following years the position was held by both male and female students. Here we refer to the role simply as “Chair”.
At some point in the late 1970s or the early 1980s the title of “Chairman” was dropped in favor of “Editor”. The exact year of this transition is not currently known to us, nor is the rationale. Here we have, somewhat arbitrarily, decided to make 1980 the year of demarcation.
Volume numbering
The volume numbers referenced here proceed in sequence from Volume 1 in 1953 and assume one volume was produced per academic year.
However, at various intervals over the last 67 years, volume numbers have been unintentionally reset, or misprinted, on certain volumes, or even on certain sequences of volumes. As a result, in some cases the volume number listed here does not match the volume number listed at the time of publication.
Accuracy
Every effort has been made to ensure the information presented here is complete and accurate. However, there are periods of time for which detailed records do not exists. Please bring any errors to our attention by emailing info@trinitynewsarchive.ie.
